Burns can be serious and even life-threatening. They can cause impairment of emotional well-being and decreased quality of life. Burns may require long-term interdisciplinary treatment and numerous outpatient visits and surgical procedures and may be an additional financial burden for victims and their families.1 2 3 4 5  Burns may pose additional barriers to community integration such as return to work and other activities.6
