Pulmonology Terminology

  • Bronchodilator – a medication used to dilate the bronchi and bronchioles
  • Cyanotis – blue color, usually caused by deoxygenation
  • Dyspnea  – difficulty breathing
  • Erythrocyte  – red blood cell
  • Eupnea – normal breathing
  • Expiration – exhalation of air out of the lungs
  • Hyperpnea  – forced or excessive breathing
  • Inspiration – inhalation of air into the lungs
  • Lingual – pertaining to the tongue
  • Respiratory Zone – structures involved in gas exchange
  • Rhinorrhea – runny nose
